The blaze in the Cowgate in 2002 was the biggest in the capital in living memory, taking hundreds of firefighters more than two days to put it out.
Ethos Environmental were employed by Whiteburn Projects to undertake a Type 3 Asbestos survey to ensure that the place is ready for asbestos removal and then redevelopment. There were around 11 connecting properties to inspect, over seven floors, all in varying degrees of smoke and water damage A thorough survey of all areas was required, but this did not. however, put off our intrepid surveyors. Following the fire in the Cowgate 2002, which destroyed a major part of Edinburgh’s Old Town,
After the fire it took three years for the developers to be named so the buildings which surrounded the destroyed area have lain empty since then.
